Sleep Talker
14 x 12 inches, colored pencil and graphite on paper
I’ve been recording myself “talking” in my sleep for many years. For this drawing, I transcribed several night’s worth of talking directly onto the paper. I began in the center and rotated the paper with each word., overlapping words, letters and sentences randomly. After this step, I colored in the intersection shapes between letters in back, and the outermost letter fragments in color. I thought of this as a way of making visible the patterns of my brain activity at night, when I am unconscious.
